Barb Hickey
Barb Hickey is a retired Board President for the River Forest District 90 Schools. During her two terms on the Board, Barb Helped pilot the schools through the challenges of COVID, and supervised the investigation of full-day kindergarten, which will be implemented in fall of 2023. She also worked extensively on Equity issues.
During her more than 30 years of volunteering in Oak Park and River Forest, Barb founded “Heartworks,” a service organization for 4th graders that is now in its 23rd year. She has been on many boards, including PING!, which makes musical instruments available at reduced rentals for kids who would not otherwise afford to play in grade school bands and orchestras in Oak Park and River Forest.
Barb grew up in Oak Park, and raised her family in River Forest. She is a graduate of Oak Park-River Forest High School, and has BA and MA degrees in English from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Before retiring to raise her family, Barb was a Manager with Donnelley Directory, working in Publishing and systems.
