Ballet Chicago and Jordan Nelson to the Rescue
Just four days before Maywood Fine Arts (MFA) would present its Classical Ballet for New Audiences performance of Swan Lake to over 1000 local school children they lost their prince. Artistic Director Heidi Renteria put out the word to Chicago area ballet groups in search of help. Ballet Chicago came to the rescue with dancer Jordan Nelson, who stepped into the role of Prince Sigfried for both the school show performance on March 23rd and the public performance on March 24th. Coincidentally, Jordan Nelson can be seen in the role of the villain of Swan Lake, Von Rothbart in Long Stories Short, part of Ballet Chicago’s Balanchine and Beyond Spring Series coming to Harris Theatre May 5th. Continuing the collaboration, Daniel Duell, Artistic Director of Ballet Chicago has given 200 free tickets for MFA students and their families to attend this professional performance at the Harris Theater, serving both organizations missions to bring the arts to underserved communities.
